Greetings from Salem

I’m finally able to write from my new apartment in Salem! I apologize for being MIA again but last week was absolutely crazy.

I started my new job last Monday so I’ve officially been a real librarian for a week. I’m really loving my job. My coworkers have been so friendly and helpful, and the patrons have been great too. It’s definitely a different dynamic than I’m used too–I worked at a HUGE library and at a small one before, and this one is somewhere in the middle–but one that I feel like is a good fit for me. And both the library and the town are wonderful.

Last week was pretty rough though, because commuting from Boston was terrible. With all the traffic, it took me over 2 hours to get home every night. And to make matters worse, I stupidly hit a cement pole in the parking garage at my old building while trying not to hit a fancy BMW parked next to me. I felt like a complete idiot! I had to have Jeff take my car to a repair shop and I’ve been driving a rental ever since. Luckily Jeff will be able to pick it up tomorrow and we’ll have one less thing to worry about.

Last weekend was crazy with us trying to finish up our packing. (It did give me a chance to catch up on Bunheads though. Anyone else watching it?) We hired a professional moving company for the first time ever and it was amazing! It was totally worth the money. The company we used was great. They had us completely moved into the new place in only 3 1/2 hours! We had to time to go to downtown Salem to have lunch and explore a little.

The highlight of my weekend: We went to a comic store and I procured this baby to take my lunch to work in…

Doctor Who lunch box FTW!

I’m so happy to be settling in to the new place. It’s definitely an adjustment…for instance, our kitchen is a million times smaller than the last one and we’re having to try to come up with weird ways to store things…but I love being a little bit out of the way in the suburbs, but still close to downtown Salem and pretty close to Boston too.

I’m looking forward to getting back into a routine, settling in at work and at home, and exploring Salem. Here’s to having a less stressful week!

  1. Yay! I’m so glad you’re liking the job!

Oh, and I hired professionals last time I moved. £400 to not have to humph heavy furniture up five flights of stairs? Worth every penny!

I’m glad everything seems to be going well! I was conveniently working on moving day so Greg and his Dad did all the hard work whilst I just did the pretty things haha. Once everything settles and you get into a routine it’ll be great 🙂 So pleased that you’re enjoying your new job, lucky lady!
